At Chidiya Udd, I make art, teach illustration and help people find their way back to creative expression. I am keenly interested in how learning takes place and my fervent hope is to be able to nurture creative confidence in people. I love work that explores oral histories, gender and identity,
and belonging.
“‘Hope’ is the thing with feathers –
That perches in the soul –
And sings the tune without the words –
And never stops – at all –.”
― Emily Dickinson
“Dawn chorus is an eye opening course for gouache, starting from blobs all the way to flowers and birds, and finally landscapes to encourage spontaneity and observation. From simple single colored flowers to layering with gouache, how to use other media with gouache to obtain a mixed media artwork are all that one can learn. Kavita is an instructor who is patient and makes content into bite sized chunks, provides easy to understand tutorials, oh my she is fabulous. It’s an absolute pleasure to learn with her.”

”I really enjoyed Gauche. When I joined the session, I was a little overwhelmed and thought that I could not draw or paint. But Kavita’s voice and her presence created a really safe space to explore my creativity. She also addressed a lot of mental blocks I had towards accessing my own creativity. She broke down drawing and painting to very simple elements which felt easy to follow. After attending the sessions with her, I feel that I can take up painting more regularly and explore myself better.”

“The Dawn Chorus was an absolutely fun-filled and beginner-friendly course for learning how to use gouache. As someone who has participated in Kavita's previous courses of Churgle Club and The Secret Garden, it was amazing to get to learn a completely new medium under such warm and judgement-free guidance. All the class and homework assignments were really good practice and I ended up with multiple works of art that felt finished and made me, as an artist, really happy. With Kavita's courses, I can always see my skills getting visibly better by leaps and bounds from the start to the end of each course.”

”The Dawn Chorus was a wonderful journey of six weeks of learning, unlearning and loving the medium of gouache. Kavita is a lovely teacher and guide who has the knack of identifying an individual’s style, sometimes even before they do! Her effervescent personality and gentle teaching make you look forward to every class. I’m grateful for all the birdies I learnt to draw and paint in this course and to Kavita for all the constructive feedback. Thank you so much! I can’t wait to join another course with you! ❤️”
