Water!

LT goes to this delightful school. The little ones do very little other than climbing trees and running barefoot and generally having a bloody good time. LT and I worked on a little ‘collage’ on uses of water. We made a 3D one! I did the drawing and cutting and she did the pasting. She finds the old man washing his cow very giggle worthy. We used scraps of paper from left over artworks and the backs of old boxes to make the pictures. The jhang shiny pipe cleaners were a gift from a lovely friend. This is what I live for… glue and sticky fingers and making a mess with little giggly LT!

Fresh from the oven! The t-shirts for parents. I made these for the playschool I am working with! Preethi Nambiar who is fast becoming my guardian angel and giggle co-conspirator put the graphics together.

A whole series of personalised tees and goodies coming up for the little ones! Dream project this!

Pre-schoolers!

The search continues for the perfect 2 pre-schoolers! More Sid and Sonyas… this time with some background to help sit them in a context! Fun stuff coming up… working on t-shirts for parents! Will put pics up soon!

This is the Sid that I like, a little nerdy thing, naughty. and the blue chashma is just what I would like to wear!

I see that most boys are crazy about engines… I know atleast 2 who think, eat, sleep engines and one particularly gabloo boy who is so into dinosaurs that he walks like one, even eats his food like one and makes very eerie, guttural roars and growls!

I like this one too… the nature loving, apple eating kind that only exists in fiction!

This one is my second favorite. The boots and umbrella were requested by LT (Little Thing). She also insists that I draw smiles on everything I draw, even cups and things.

This Sonya is in the tops. Everyone seems to like her. I like her because she knows how to use a catapult!

Hmmm… another Sonya. The skippy, happy type, who likes flowers, butterflies and pink (sheeesh!). This is LT’s favorite.

If you remember dear reader, I had written earlier about these little kids that I was creating for a play school?

Well, here they are colored in.

Now we plan to do a testing with the kids, who I am sure will be my most honest, brutal and toughest critics! Can’t wait. Will blog about what they have to say over the next few months. We plan to make some kid size standees, flash cards with little scenarios to test them.

more moony stuff

Lots of work over the week! This is a cover option for the book on the moon and the sun… the text is just dummy for a look and feel… loving the pastels.

A double spread. The moon in his cosmic playground… planets with hoola hoops and jumping on rockets while comets dash around all fiery.

I like this little bit from an earlier rendition of the moon meets sun page… I added these cows… i like the nice and quiet of the pic, can almost smell the raat ki raani and hear the crickets.

The Moon & The Sun

A friend has written a story in verse about a little moon who wants to be the sun. And I went and quickly ordered my nice new box of cretacolor dry pastels! This project is just the perfect opportunity to teach myself working with pastels. I have tried using them when in design school, but never did get them right. I am still struggling with the medium! But I love the way the pastels smooth-en onto the paper and are so easy to craft with your fingers… and yet difficult exactly for the same reason!

Also been looking at Axel Scheffler’s work and falling in love with it! Love the knobbly noses and the bug eyes, the little brick houses and profusion of animals and people in his pictures!

Big smile on my face, paint stains on my fingers and clothes, uncombed hair and a crick in my neck from all that stooping… but happy, happy, happy!
